Safe patient handling equipment is a category of devices that are designed to help health care workers and caregivers to lift, transfer, and reposition patients who have limited mobility or require assistance. Lifts (both powered & manual): These are devices that use mechanical or electrical power to raise and lower patients from one surface to another, such as from a bed to a wheelchair or from a floor to a stretcher. Slings: These are devices that are attached to lifts or other equipment to support and secure patients during lifting or transferring. Slings can have different shapes, sizes, materials, and features, depending on the patient’s needs and preferences.
