While both can be used to treat chronic conditions and acute injuries, the shape and application of the splint and brace can vary. In general, a brace is intended to correct or support a weakened limb or torso for an unspecified period of time, whereas a splint is typically used in medical circumstances to help immobilize the wounded portion of the body. Splints primarily concentrate on bone fractures, but can also be used to help treat sprains. Put another way, braces are typically applied to tears and sprains, but may also be used to heal broken bones.
